Recently, I have been working to bolster our presence on X. Although I created our account last year, it remained largely inactive. Initially, I struggled with understanding the platform's dynamics, as I'm not a social media user. My attempt to discover relevant accounts to follow under the subjects of style and fashion proved challenging. Many of the brands I admire seemed mostly absent on X. Consequently, I opted to kickstart our profile with sporadic posts, merely to establish a presence. Now, I’m dedicating some time to it and I've begun to unearth some gems of style content like @dieworkwear and @urban_comp and anticipate discovering more as I engage with these profiles.

With my, so far, limited observations of X’s men's style profiles, I've noticed a recurring theme: a focus on sophisticated, casual sophisticated, or streetwear aesthetics. While variations exist, these themes appear to dominate the platform. Surprisingly, I find myself drawn to the profiles that showcase sophisticated looks, despite rarely dressing in such attire myself. What interests me most is the wealth of knowledge these influencers possess - insights into fabrics, colors, textures and the intricacies of pairing garments. It reminds me of once having a subscription to Esquire Magazine, entertained by its articles and sharp photography. It's reassuring to find similar content readily available on social media today.

This makes me wonder: how many men actually dress this well on a regular basis? Is it driven by professional obligations, personal satisfaction, or simply a desire to look great? Each motive is valid, and indeed, one may not require any reason at all. I admire those who defy the prevailing trend of extreme casualness, recognizing the value of presenting oneself with style and refinement. There is a lot to be said for being comfortable but come on, no one should ever leave their home in pajamas unless they are being carried by their mommy or daddy.

As someone who has often struggled to find the perfect t-shirt, I respect those who embark on the quest for well-fitting, balanced outfits, regardless of the time or financial investment involved. Personally, this venture presents a considerable challenge. I enter stores with a preconceived vision of my desired look, and the inability to fulfill that vision can be disheartening. For those who consistently curate their wardrobe, especially those who embrace trendy styles, the dedication is commendable. It's a feat I haven't attempted in years, perhaps due to a blend of reluctance to invest time, convince myself of necessity, and reluctance to part with money. My comfort lies in casual attire, yet a part of me seeks a departure from its relaxed attitude. There is really no reason I shouldn’t at least have a few nice outfits; my wife and I go out to dinner at least a couple of times a month. I’m sure she would enjoy dressing up on those nights. I could make those few outfits go a long way I imagine. Plus, we are going to Las Vegas in a few weeks and I will need something to wear…

As I am writing this article, I have just realized what I have been doing with my wardrobe for the last decade. I have mentioned before in an earlier article that I like to use a uniform method when choosing clothes. I have one look that I really like and I basically repeat that with slight variations every day. Over the years I have been trying to perfect this look for me. I have been looking for the perfect t-shirt for me to go with the perfect jeans for me to match the perfect shoes for me. Considering I had to start my own clothing company to “find” my perfect t-shirt, I guess it hasn’t gone that smoothly. Or maybe it has, I’m quite happy to own my own clothing company. I have a go to denim jean that I like, the Levi 502, unfortunately their fit isn’t very consistent and their washes are pretty boring. Which nearly always leads me to black and I have three pairs as I write this. As for shoes I have pretty much settled into a classic runner style. The Onitsuka Tiger New York, the New Balance 996 and the Saucony Jazz Lo Pro’s are some of my favorites but, of course these can be tough to find, at least in the more toned down colors I prefer. I really like this look and thinking back I’m really surprised at how hard it has been for me to nail down considering how simple it is. This realization just gives me that much more respect for those who are knowledgeable and skilled at putting a look together. Excellent work.
